How to Install LED Shift Lights Steering Wheel
What’s Included in the Package?
Before you start, make sure you have all the parts and tools required for the installation. Here’s what you should find in your package:
- LED Shift Light
- Mounting Bracket
- Wiring Harness
- Screws and Fasteners
Tools You’ll Need
To install the LED shift light, you’ll need the following tools:
- Screwdriver
- Wire Strippers
- Electrical Tape
- Drill (optional, for mounting)

Please read all instructions carefully before starting the installation. Incorrect installation can lead to damage or malfunction. If the installation guide seems out of your comfort zone, please take it to a professional installer.
Step 1: Locate and disconnect the battery
Locate and disconnect the battery prior to removing OEM steering wheel assembly. Battery locations can usually be found in your vehicle's owners manual.
Step 2: Remove OEM Steering Wheel Assembly.
Instructions for how to remove your OEM steering wheel depends on the make and model of your vehicle. You should be able to find many tutorials online with a quick search on Youtube.
Step 3: Transfer OEM Components
The goal of this step is to prepare your GTLabs custom steering wheel with all the necessary components to be ready for install. Depending on the spec of your GTLabs custom steering wheel, you may have optioned some of these components such as paddle shifters and airbag covers. Install all GTLabs provided options and then transfer the remaining OEM buttons, paddle shifters (if automatic), Trim Piece, and OEM wiring to GTLabs steering wheel.
Step 4: Locate GTLabs Steering Wheel LED Wires
If optioned with LED shift lights there should be 2 wires attached to the GTLabs custom steering wheel. Locate 1x black wire(GND) and 1x red wire(12V) from LED module.
Step 5: Identify OEM Wiring Tapping Points
In order to identify the correct tapping points for the OEM wiring, we need to locate the wire that has 12V when the vehicle has been started up as well as a ground wire. Use a multimeter to test the wires, or consult the OEM wiring diagram to locate the ground and 12V wires for tapping.
Step 6: Expose Tapping Points
Expose the ground and 12V wires from OEM wiring in order to wrap the LED module ground and 12V wiring.
Step 7: Connect the Wiring
Wrap the LED ground and 12V ends to the exposed OEM wiring ground and 12V.
Step 8: Secure Tapping Points
Wrap the exposed areas with electrical tape. Optionally, you can solder the contact areas before wrapping it with electrical tape for a more secure install.
Step 9: Install GTLabs Steering Wheel Assembly
Install GTLabs steering wheel and airbag assembly on to the vehicle. This is done in reverse order of removing the OEM wheel from the vehicle.
Step 10: Plug in OBD11 Bluetooth Module
Locate OBD port and plug in the OBD Bluetooth Module. OBD ports are typically found underneath the driver side footwell. This OBD Bluetooth module will be what communicates the driver info wirelessly to the LED shift lights.
Step 11: Reconnect Battery
Install GTLabs steering wheel and airbag assembly on to the vehicle.
Step 12: Start Vehicle & Clear Codes
Start your vehicle and clear any codes that may have been generated due to disconnecting the battery. Then, you’re ready to enjoy your brand new full custom GTLabs LED steering wheel!
